Taking the Confusion Out of College Choices

* Start in the right place, by considering God’s calling for your life.
* Ask the right questions, using a series of worksheets to take you through five questions that you must answer to make good choices about education.
* Discover the multiple pathways available to gain the training and recognition you need.

BLP 080, Personal Education Strategy, is an ideal way to build on the foundation laid in ATI’s Life Purpose Planning. BLP 080 is a five-week course for one semester hour of credit. Cost: $100.

Telos has offered CLEP Preparation courses to help students prepare for the CLEP Exams in English Composition and in Social Sciences and History. This year we have introduced a new course to help you prepare for the CLEP Exam in Humanities.

In these courses, you will follow a flexible schedule, working with an experienced tutor to help you review the most important concepts, brush up on your weak spots, and become familiar with the exam. As you take practice exams, your tutor will customize an individual study plan for you, based on your specific areas of weakness. Students who take the English course will also write practice essays.

After completing these assignments, you will be able to approach the CLEP Exam with confidence.

The Next Step After WBLA

Wisdom Book Language Arts (WBLA) blends spiritual insights with writing and language skills. Once your son or daughter completes Level C of the WBLA curriculum they should be ready to progress to the next level of excellence.

ATI recommends the Preparatory English courses from The Telos Institute as an effective way to build on the foundation you have laid in the WBLA curriculum. Telos offers two courses designed for students fourteen and older who want to build further confidence in their writing skills and prepare themselves to write at the level demanded in college-level programs.

ENGL 090 helps you correct any blind spots in grammar, builds habits of correct word usage and punctuation, and guides you in constructing effective paragraphs and essays. You will also work on typing speed and time management.

ENGL 095 begins with a grammar review, then provides ample practice in writing in various formats. You will also learn how to go step-by-step through the process of writing a research paper.

Schedule: Fifteen weeks
Registration deadline: July 29, 2010
Cost: $200 per course ($10 discount if you register by July 15)

“Through the leading of our Lord, the International Ministerial Institute (IMI) is opening its doors to young women. Up to this point, IMI has been an all-male school, since one of its main purposes is to prepare young men for the pastorate. While many of our graduates do go into ministry, the majority does not do so. Many students simply take the disciplines and the relationship with the Lord which they gained at IMI into their lives beyond graduation for the general furtherance of God’s kingdom. IMI has been in existence now for over ten years, and we have often been asked when we would open an IMI for young women. This last February, the Lord began to confirm to us through Scripture, the Holy Spirit, and authorities that this was His desire.

IMI is designed for students who want a deeper relationship with God and are not afraid to go where truth may take them. We do not adhere to any denomination or theology, and we will not tell a student what to believe theologically. It is our desire that each student learns to hear the voice of God and that God determines their “theology” or lack thereof. We are not focused on the church, as the Biblical focus of a believer is on a relationship with the Father and on seeking His kingdom and righteousness. It is from this relationship with God that true ministry flows from the believer. Jesus defined a disciple as one who abides in His Word, and our goal is to make disciples for Him in this way.

Classes are scheduled similarly to college semesters. The fall semesters start in late August and end in mid-November, and the spring semesters start in late February and end in mid-May. Each semester is twelve weeks long. We require a three-year commitment from the students. If a student desires, he or she can stay for a fourth year and earn a Bachelors Degree in Biblical Ministries. The cost is currently $2,100 per semester, which includes room, board, and books. Separate dorms will be provided for male and female students, and no courtships, engagements, or marriages are allowed during a student’s enrollment in IMI. While these events may spring from friendships formed at IMI, they cannot and will not occur while one is a student here. We desire that all students focus on God and their relationship with Him during this time of training.

Our Web site and brochures are purposely vague, because we cannot communicate the heart of IMI in print. Students need to know what they will experience at IMI, and that is best shared through personal interaction. To request further information or an application, please call us at 512-756-1023 or write to us at 2465 CR 330, Burnet, Texas 78611.”
-Dr. Mike Davis, Director

General Course Overview:
IMI encourages students to develop a passion for God and a desire for the Holy Spirit in every aspect of practical living and future service.

Students are challenged to live as disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, to allow God to transform them into a royal priesthood, to rely only on His abilities and power, and to be a pure vessel set apart for His use in the world.

oakbrook

A major area where we need people who have a heart right with God is law and politics. Oak Brook College of Law and Government Policy is a one-of-a-kind Christian law school! In contrast to the evolutionary and humanist view given by most law schools, OBCL approaches law from a biblical and historical viewpoint.

Oak Brook offers a 4 year J.D program which qualifies graduates to become licensed lawyers in California and a few other states. Many J.D. graduates have also seen God open other doors of opportunity and are practicing in specialized legal capacities in several more jurisdictions in the United States and Canada.

Oak Brook College also offers a one-year paralegal program which gives an overview of the American legal system and qualifies students to become Certified Legal Assistants. For a less demanding course of study, Oak Brook has a Legal Studies Program that allows students to take the paralegal courses in a flexible and more relaxed schedule.

An exciting opportunity starting this year allows Oak Brook students to study on campus along with the students at the Verity Institute in Indiana!

For more information about OBCL, check out www.obcl.edu, and click here to read a testimony from a current student.

VERITY INSTITUTE JOINS WITH OAK BROOK COLLEGE OF LAW

TO PROVIDE

“ON CAMPUS” LEGAL STUDY OPPORTUNITIES

FOR

LAW AND PARALEGAL STUDENTS

In today’s culture, it is increasingly important to know basic legal terminology and procedures. Not all are called to be lawyers, but everyone can benefit from knowing the Biblical foundations of our legal system, the jurisdictional approach to law, and the source of our rights. Daily activities require all of us to have some knowledge of the law.

Oak Brook College of Law and Government Policy (OBCL) offers different levels of legal study: from the four-year juris doctor (J.D.) degree program for those who want to be licensed attorneys to supplemental material for high school students – all by correspondence. The most practical course of study is the one-year paralegal/legal assistant program by which one can qualify to become a nationally certified legal assistant.

Verity Institute is joining with OBCL to create an “on campus” option for OBCL law and paralegal students. OBCL students will join Verity students in the campus life and Christian discipleship that is such an important part of the Verity program. OBCL students would also have the opportunity to work toward a Bachelor’s degree through Verity while completing their legal studies. Verity students will benefit from the opportunity to take law courses while completing their undergraduate program and from on-campus lectures being planned.

This association between Oak Brook College and Verity Institute will create greater opportunities for students and will advance the goals of both programs. For more information about Verity, visit www.verityinstitute.org; for Oak Brook College see www.obcl.edu.

DesktopPublishing DesktopPublishing2

Testimonials:

"I have always enjoyed creating things. It really doesn’t matter what, I just enjoy doing it. This course, although teaching about desktop publishing, is applicable in various ways to other mediums of art. Learning about color was especially fun and can be related to any art that contains it. Some aspects apply to all art and anyone who enjoys art should enjoy it. I look forward to using the skills I have learned here to improve other art projects such as painting with acrylics. Mr. Ritchie has been a great teacher. He made things clear and kept my attention. I praise God for the wonderful week I had."
- Joel

"Mr. Richie has done an outstanding job as instructor. Not only has he presented the material well but he also takes a personal interest in the students and their growth. I am looking forward to using the skills I have learned both here in my job at Verity, and in the many opportunities God brings along the way."
- Rebekah

    VerityDualEnrollment

Are you in high school but ready to start college?

For many students dual enrollment reduces the time and cost of college. The Verity program blends foundational Christian truths and initial collegiate studies, equipping students to succeed in higher education. Verity Dual Enrollment: spiritually fortifying and academically jumpstarting students for college.

Verity’s dual enrollment program begins with a two-day orientation at the Verity campus in Indianapolis, Indiana. Students receive instruction in topics ranging from test taking to essay writing. Biblical worldview lectures provide students a framework for beginning college studies. After orientation, students complete the remainder of the program at home.

In the first phase, students complete foundational studies in the Biblical Worldview and the Life Purpose Planning modules. In the second phase, academic studies focus on preparing students to earn college credit through examination. Students complete two six-week academic modules, each culminating in a comprehensive test (such as CLEP and DSST). Study materials, class DVDs, and textbooks are provided to each student on a library system. Advisors work individually with students to answer questions and provide accountability for accomplishing student’s academic goals. Our on-line forum facilitates student interaction and discussion of class concepts.
