From the countryside of Taiwan to the neighbor next-door, there are many opportunities to reach various people groups through the ministry of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). To prepare for this ministry, IBLP is hosting two- or three-week intensive courses that cover the basics of TESOL and equip people to minister through it.

This summer’s TESOL course will be taught by Audra Wolfley and held in conjunction with the VOICE program for Taiwanese youth. TESOL students will have opportunities to interact with the Taiwanese students through combined English classes, activities, and mealtimes. Students can expect to be challenged and inspired as they receive a vision and necessary skills for impacting the world through Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

The TESOL course has a three-fold goal:

  • To equip individuals to serve immigrants and foreign students in their communities through tutoring and instruction in English.
  • To equip individuals to serve the citizens and leaders of foreign nations by meeting the practical need for English teachers.
  • To impart a vision for using TESOL as a tool for advancing Christ’s kingdom.
Skills

The course is built on a foundation of Communicative Language Theory and task-based learning.

  • Learn how to teach the four macro-skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Develop and practice teaching skills in class.
  • Develop an understanding of the learning/teaching process, classroom management, how to assess students’ needs, how to plan a lesson, and how to plan a course.
  • Become familiar with resources for teaching vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation.
  • Learn the practical, hands-on use of teaching resources, as well as a theoretical foundation for teaching English.
  • Become familiar with different curriculum resources: how to find them, how to use them, and how to adapt them for the needs of the class.

The sessions and activities of the COMMIT conferences are planned with this goal in mind: to motivate young ladies to choose to seek God first, become fully committed to Him, come to love Him with all their hearts, and humbly serve others in their irreplaceable youth before facing the pressures of adulthood.

Encouraging Mothers and Daughters. The COMMIT conference provides an opportunity for mothers and daughters to deepen their relationship with the Lord and with one another.

Daughters will be encouraged to make Christ the first priority in their hearts and make wise decisions throughout their lives. Along with attending sessions with their daughters, mothers will benefit from mothers’ sessions of practical encouragement and insight.

Mothers attending with daughters will have the opportunity to have many fruitful conversations and strengthen their relationship. However, we do allow girls ages 14 and up to attend without their mothers.

We hope to see you at an upcoming COMMIT conference!

Part 1 is about developing the system for handling the purchase, preparation, and clean up of FOOD for meals in the home. The other systems of the home deal with clothing, shelter, education, and life purpose. These systems are analogous to departments in a business. They are the backbone of a household and need managed to experience the peaceful fruits of a safe, joyful home. The alternative is a chaotic home with feelings of bitterness and apathy.
